Self employed stay at home dad

I am a stay at home dad who does woodworking on the evenings and weekends.  This post is me venting some frustration that comes with this title.  I love that fact that I get to spend the time I do with my kids.  Seeing the world through their eyes, every thing is new and exciting.  I think that after some time we become numb to what is around us.  I get a new appreciation for so many things that we take for granted through my child’s reactions. The down side is the lack of time that we get to spend together as a whole family.  I love my wife and wish I could spend more time with her but we made the decision that one of us was going to stay home with the kids and since my job did not supply insurance I got the honor of staying home with them.  It is a tough decision for allot of families.  Option 1 you work your tail off to make enough money to pay for the child care and worry about what your child is being exposed to while you are at work.  Option 2 you make some tough budget choices and a very active role in what your child is learning.  It is such a privileged to be able to stay at home with them and experience all of the firsts.  First time sitting up, first time taking steps, first words…

The moral of my story is to not be bitter and frustrated about the schedule we have chosen but look forward to and enjoy all of the time spent with the kids.
